[AGA-sc] Re: [AGA-conheads] SF spots (fwd)
File this away under "reasons to carefully scrutinize the organizational
structure in the bid from SFBAAPS"... if we ever actually get a bid from
SFBAAPS.

Jeff, can I talk to you on the
phone or something? I'm trying to figure
out exactly who's in charge here & have
heard conflicting reports as to exactly what Dave's role is relative to
the rest of you...

No one is in charge we operate by consensus.
Dave has tried many times to get us to appoint a titular leader. On a
few occasions he has appointed himself. Each time I have made effective
arguments to the effect that sfbaaps can be run by its membership. It
is an issue that is still being worked out.
Dave has been worrying this issue too much and is probably not taking
care of his blood sugar levels. Here is how I clued another member
recently:

I am sorry to read Dave's tone in his replies.
Please be patient with his brusk phrasing. He may sometimes appear
quite rude but he is also an active and therefore valuable member of
sfbaaps. He does not hear attempts to guide his behavior even when he
seems to be listening.

That may be OK for SFBAAPS as a club, but we're not talking about SFBAAPS
as a club, but as an AGA Convention Host. A convention cannot be organized
in this manner. Someone's got to be in charge, and know what all the
other people are doing. Even something as laid-back as Tom's Plantfest is
still organized by Tom, and as you might guess, an AGA convention is far
more complex than PlantFest.
You guys will have to have a convention head AND a certain degree of
organization to insure all the individual aspects of the convention are
covered. They don't need to be ruling by an "iron fist", but someone does
need to make sure things are done. I tried to get that point across in
that very early post a few days ago.
