[AGA-sc] Conversation with Jim / Speakers

Hi folks,

Just off the phone with Jim.

We talked about shortening/combining the Friday night show-n-tell and 
adding another speaker, and he's cool with that.  Also relayed the 
no-hospitality-suite idea (which was essentially their plan to start 
with), and that Larry is talking with Jean about chips in the vendor room 
Friday night.  Highlights of speaker conversation:

* Sounds like everyone's go for Dave Wilson.  Question about who is the 
best contact, us, him or Tom.  He's going to talk to Tom and get his 
thoughts.  Tom apparently contacted him originally.

* He pushed back on Professor Tan. That's actually saying something, in my 
opinion, since Jim hasn't pushed back on much with me.  He forwarded me an 
article (see URL at bottom).  Noted that Mosses is a big deal with 
SFBAAPS, and the large asian demographic of their local club.  I noted 
that we're kinda on the fence about that one, thinking, yeah, we should 
stay on budget, but maybe just go for it and spend the money as a "treat" 
for the attendees.  Jim's going to ask SFBAAPS members if any of them have 
contacts in Singapore who have seen him.  Karen, do *we* have contacts for 
him here?  Maybe it's time to just ask and find out if he talks, speaks 
English, etc.

* They have a local member, Eric Do, who's a kinda invert expert and also 
a great photographer.  Jim is going to ask him if he's interested in 
talking.

* Jim wonders if Friday night would be a good slot for Jeff Senske photo 
workshop, since it's in the vendor room.  I mentioned the concerns with 
having a tank pre-set up and not cloudy.  Jim's going to ask the guys.

* Jim's OK with Ricky, so I'm going to ask him.  I'll ask Jeff too.

* He posted the financial arrangement, and asked for feedback & got none 
(big surprise).

* There's a group meeting this weekend, so he'll ask questions of folks 
then.  I also planted the notion that we'll need speaker chaperones for at 
least the guest speakers & that it may be a good opportunity for folks who 
don't want to commit big-time to the planning, but still want to help.

That's all.  If I have the time, I'll send Jim a condensed version of this 
list with his reminders before the meeting.  Hopefully we'll also have an 
iteration with the hotel by then.
