Hi folks,

I finally heard from Claus today, and Holger has, unfortunately declined. 
Sounds like bad news, huh?

We then e-mailed back and forth a couple of times mulling over whether Ole 
or Troels would be a better choice to ask first.  Well, I just got off the 
phone with Claus, and here is what he's offering...

Claus has asked Ole if he will come and speak, and he has accepted.  Then 
Claus has offered to have Tropica to pay Troels' plane fare to come and 
speak also, if AGA will pay for a double room (for Ole & Troels to share) 
and Troels' meal costs for the conference.  Since I believe our room night 
costs are fixed, no matter how many people share a room, I think the only 
out-of-pocket cost for us would be meal expenses and marginal cost on the 
MBA trip.  Claus has not yet presented this to Troels, as he wanted our 
approval first, but he is "98% sure" that Troels will agree, barring some 
unexpected conflict with the date.

I know that this might necessitate some fiddling (perhaps shoe-horning) 
around with the schedule, but I think we'd be crazy not to take him up on 
this offer.  Ole has the name, but Troels is becoming very well known in 
scientific circles in the aquatic plant world.  I also mentioned to Claus 
that it would help get his name a little more recognition if we had a few 
more articles from him. (other than the co-authored one with Ole & Claus, 
where Troels did most of the work, but the other names are better known ;-) 
Claus's response was for us to tell him the next deadline, and he'd tell 
Troels to get us an article or he wouldn't pay for his plane ticket.<g>

Oh, and this isn't a certainty, but Claus said he's going to try very hard 
to come just as a "spectator" to AGA this year, too.

Claus is leaving for InterZoo (with Ole & Troels, actually) in the morning, 
but he said he'd check his e-mail several times while he's gone, so I can 
get back in touch with him even while he's gone.

So, what say you? (or for the Texans, "y'all?")
