I think the shipping issue is the added cost of the funny shaped box, not so much keeping the bulb safe.  You know how they have limits on the longest measurement around a package?  That's L-O-N-G on a 4ft tube, no matter how skinny it is.

Interesting. I've heard claims of higher efficiency, but any time I've seen numbers, they are the same as the 5/12" diameter u-tubes.

 

Kim Bryant's commments about shipping are interesting -- due to the length/shape of T5s, the stress-in-bending load factor would be 4 times higher but the stress-in-bending strength would be about half of that of a u-tube.


Erik, have you compared any new T5s to the ones you've had running a few months? Just curious about the intitial burn-in decay.
