If you get this twice, folks, I’m
sorry. I’ve been having a terrible time with my e-mail today. This
looks like it was sent on my end, but didn’t come back to me (as it
should) as part of the AGA BOD list. Here’s what I wrote earlier: OK, I’ve moved this to the BOD list,
because I really think we have to hash out some decisions, and I think we want
to present a united front on the larger list. Here is what Larry sent to the list.
It sounded pretty confirmed to me: >>Yes, we have Speakers confirmed..... We have confirmed Karen Randall, and either or both
Jeff and Mike Senske. We will also have a Seachem speaker but that may happen
if we do the tour of their facility. I talked to Ricky yesterday (He and Doug are in Here is the prospective list with a C for those who
are confirmed and a T for Tentative: 1. Karen Randall - C 2. Jeff Senske - C 3. Mike Senske - T 4. Seachem Speaker TBA - T 5. Takashi Amano – T<< I tried, at that point, to move the Seachem speaker
to during the FT on Friday. And I hope we can get Greg. I also
expressed that I thought that both Jeff and Mike was just too much Senske for
one convention. But it sounded like Larry had already asked Jeff, so it
was too late to re-think that one. I really, really REALLY think it’s an AWFUL
idea to do both an Amano demo and an “Iron Aquascapers”.
There. I’ve said it. I think we need to put this up for a
cote, once and for all, and get on with planning, rather than rehashing this in
various permutations. Karen From:
aga-conheads-bounces@thekrib.com [mailto:aga-conheads-bounces@thekrib.com] On Behalf Of S. Hieber I missunderstood about Jeff. I knew he was gonig to help
with the scpaper stuff but I thought having him talk was optional. He spoke at
the last convention, iirc. Perhaps we mean that Mike S might talk? Anyway, J or
M can easily fit in the open slot, however we might change the order. Ben, I too liked the idea of the ironscaper on Friday as an
early draw -- something that involves activity instead of a talk. The prob
I see with that, and I forget who pointed this out to me, is what is the
show after the banq? It's not fair a speaker to bring them on
stage at that late -- it's just a hard time to give a talk -- unless maybe
we cut the awards part really short or push it to the end, but that seems to
take about an hour, iirc. Do we want to end with just the dinner and awards?
What will folks be gald they stayed late for? I'm assuming the Amano talk must preceed his demo
so Amano can't speak after the banq. I didn't think the discussion was closed on anything.
----- Original Message
---- I like your proposed schedule, except that
I think we need to plan a full 2 hrs for Amano for his demo. Otherwise, I
_know we will end up starting Professor Tan late. The only other option I
see is giving Professor Tan the morning slot (not optimal, I know) so that we
can give him the respect of running on time. I could take the “clean-up”
slot in the afternoon, knowing that it might start late. You haven’t got Jeff in there
yet. If you give him the second slot Friday night, we’re full up on
speakers using the proposed schedule. Also, I thought we weren’t going to
do Iron Aquascapers since we already have Amano doing a demo in the afternoon.
(I am personally really opposed to the idea of a second aquascaping demo, both
in terms of program balance, and in terms of logisitics) My understanding of
Cheryl’s “sand box” idea was that it would be an on-going
“activity area” that people could play with at will all
weekend. I think it would be a great way to draw people into the vendor
room, frankly. Larry, I think we may have to call for a
vote, or take it to the BOD list or something to get a firm decision on this
issue, so that we can all move forward with a plan. Getting back to the schedule, if we want
an after banquet program, and also want to add another speaker, my talk, which
will be “travel log/adeventure-ish” might be light and entertaining
at the end of a long day. (though I’d _really_
like to put Amano (talk, not Demo) in that slot) Karen From:
aga-conheads-bounces@thekrib.com [mailto:aga-conheads-bounces@thekrib.com] On Behalf Of S. Hieber I think we have room for at least one more speaker in
addition to Kane. Possibly 2 if we wanted to squish things. But one more would
leave things reasonably roomy, imo, without starting too early or too late. Our
tendency is to squeeze in jsut one more speaker/event -- I don't htink we're
there yet. Kane and someone else on Friday night. Karen and Amano or Tan and Amano in the Sat morning Amano and Karen or Amano and Tan Sat after lunch. We could do 75min speaker slots with about 1/2 hour breaks
inbetween talks, 1 1/2 hr for lunch, and about 2 hours after talks and
before banquet. If we cut the inbetween breaks in half to 15 minutes and
shorten the before banquet break and there's room for another speaker slot
Something like this -- change the names around to suit
tastes -- soft end means it might end a bit early or late's flexible--soft
start means it can start a bit early or late:
