After I composed this e-mail and came up for air, I relayed the info to 
Kathy (sitting at the other computer to my left).  She says:

"The reason for holding the convention in Atlanta was *Seachem*.  You 
*have* to do the tour of Seachem.  People were interested in it in 2006. 
The hotel's 6 blocks from the aquarium... people can go do that on their 
own at their leisure.  Seachem you won't be able to get into without 
arrangement."

So there's a nice data point. :)
