If we do IA Friday night, I think that will more than make up for "no
speaker". I think IA = two short talks (which is what we had in 2006).
But we could always squeeze in a guerilla 'midnight madness' workshop (or
set up the sandbox) after the contest.

Counting Seachem and banquet, that would be 5 talks and 2 demos.
2006 had 7 talks and one demo. Several of the talks were very short. It
felt perfect.
2004 had 7 talks and one demo, and crammed them in by running three
simultaneous rooms as workshops. I wish I had the program archived for
that (Cheryl, do you have the 2004 program?). I found 2004 a little bit
hectic.
I won't talk about 2003. :)
2002 was a straight 6 talks (including banquet).
2001 was 5 talks plus demo.
So I dunno... you've certainly got a point that on paper it might look
like one less of something. I don't think it would be good to cram in
another talk on Saturday, unless we hear back from Prof. Tan of the
culture guy that they're doing 30-minute talks. So it'd have to be Friday
night, butted-up against IA (if we do it).

OK OK. But are the other two guys working with Bailin doing Vendor stuff,
or are they all working cross purposes? I didn't get a clear read that
they were on the same page.

I agree, except that the discussions that involve making decisions of
sensitive political nature, i.e., Jeff Senske's ego or Bailin's ability to
execute on things, need to be dealt with HERE, and FIRST.
Certainly if the IA had been presented as "Jeff is very enthusiastic to
run the IA from start to finish -- all we need to do is supply plants and
A/V. I think we should go for this, on Friday"... then it would have been
done and done, and all public on the list. Unfortunately, now we have to
make a decision and potentially smooth out SOMEONE's feathers, be it Jeff
or Ben.
