I agree, it's a question of what we get short term in exchange for what we give up in perpetuity -- they also would have rights to edit as they wish, when they wish,no?

 

Anyway, putting it on a web site is almost the same as making it public domain, not legally but as a matter of practice.

The last time I talked to them, however, their policy was still to insist on full, permanent (though non-exclusive) rights to anything submitted.  That would make me very nervous with any publisher, let alone one that had wantonly mis-used peoples' material in the past. I know that Herby is out of the picture, and I admit that Dave is seems to be a really nice guy, and quite hobbyist oriented but I'm still gun-shy.

It's not THAT bad... TFH has gotten quite a bit better in the last 5+ years.  They're a major major supporter of a lot of clubs like ACA and ALA, printing their convention programs in the magazine... the bloody MAGAZINE!
