Subject: [AGA-sc] AGA Internet Update
More end-of-year stats for anyone who might be snowed in to enjoy (I went
sledding with the kids this morning, but they're watching The Grinch right
now). I also find it a good idea to periodically report on how & what
that 25 bucks a month the AGA reimburses me for the Internet pipe is
actually doing.
We have web stats. You can get the last year here:
http://lists.thekrib.com/Logs/AGA (main site)
http://lists.thekrib.com/Logs/AGABB (forum)
http://lists.thekrib.com/Logs/Showcase (aquascaping contest)
I think you can get in with any valid account for accessing archives or
AGA Database files.
Data transferred from the main site is hovering around 10 GB per month,
definitely up from last year when it was 7.7 gb, which in turn is
explosively more than 2006. The forum is taking a couple gig per month.
Most interesting, as always, is the contest website. In November, 117 GB
were downloaded from the site. The rest of the year, 50 GB per month is
grabbed. Last November, only 98 GB was downloaded in the month of
November.
Finally, I did do some research on what it would take to upgrade the forum
to phpbb 3.0, as the phpbb folks are planning on abandoning the 2.x
codebase
early next year. The most distressing thing I found is that my
beloved e-mail gateway plug-in (mail2forum or m2f) will ONLY work with the
2.x codebase, and the lone developer working on it is making almost no
progress on porting it to 3.0. This is very bad news for me, as I just
don't check the forum at all unless I read an interesting e-mail from
there in my box. Obviously I'd love to hear constructive suggestions.
