I heard from Janine, and she says NEC can help with expenses for another
speaker only to the extent of registration an banquet. Better than nothing,
I guess! She also offered to pick up more if the speaker we chose could
also speak on a fish subject. (especially a live bearer speaker, but she was
flexible on that part) But I don't know anyone who can do both of those
things. DO any of you?
Can I go ahead and ask Ghazanfar to speak at the AGA meeting? I suspect we
would have to cover both his plane ticket and his room. Rooms run about $90
per night as of last year... haven't seen it for this year yet, and I just
checked Expedia. Flights from DC are running about $236. (well, we could
get it $30 cheaper if we wanted to make him stop in Philly, but...)
Can I go ahead and ask him?
Karen

Hi folks,
Ghazanfar's talk in Seattle rocked last Tuesday. Very easy to follow,
humourous at times, and chock-full of good information. The audience, our
local club, has a few hard-core plant folks, but mostly a wide range of
interests and abilities. Afterwards, we auctioned off all the rare crypts
he brought and donated -- typically fetching $10-12 per lot. Everyone I
spoke to and heard from in e-mail thanked "me" for my suggestion (though
it was really Luis who recommended him). And for myself, next week I am
going hunting for a good fertilizer to use for a foliar spray.
He would not be out of place as a headlining speaker at an AGA.
If you want to download the talk and take a look for yourself, he was kind
enough to let me distribute a 50-meg low-resolution mpeg-4 video via
bittorrent here: http://www.gsas.org/torrents/ghazanfar.torrent
Please don't post the link on APC or anything -- it's a GSAS club
resource.
