I agree with Bob that they should be large enough to eat the bbs. A good indication is the size of the eye. If the bbs is larger then their eyes generally speaking you should be ok. Microworms, viniger eels, and infusoria would be good foods for fry that cant take bbs yet. If you have about 2-3 days before their free swimming just take 2-3 grains of uncooked rice and throw it into a quart jar add some water from an old established tank ( the junk from a sponge filter is great) and in a few days you'll see a small cloud of specks. These infusorions are a great first food. They are much better then many of the commercial preparations which only serve to foul the water.
