Matt,
I use a UV on my salt water tank to eliminate bacteria and parasites that 
pass under the light in the UV Sterilizer.  It really is a good idea because 
it reduces sickness and parasites by a lot!  I noticed a HUGE difference on 
my tank - I kept getting parasites on my fisheys.  No more!  I haven't used 
it on any of my freshwater tanks (too many of those!), but it works the same 
way.  I thought about getting one on my community tank ... just never took 
it the extra step since I haven't heard anyone say much about it on the 
freshwater tanks.  I am curious to know if anyone has tried it.
