I've also been considering getting a PH meter, but haven't got round 
to getting one! As for where you can purchase PH and conductivity 
meters Farnell stock a good range - ph meters start at £23.50 and 
conductivity start at £40. You can get them online at 
www.farnel.com, the part number is 710-7535.
If you do get one i'd welcome some comments on how it performed 
etc.
