Re: proud pappa

Hi Mike,

For Badis sp. "scarlet", I spawned them in a two gallon tank. They are pretty ready to spawn in any water condition, providing them with lots of plants e.g. java moss, java fern. I have mine spawned only when they are less than an inch long. The male looks brilliant red while the female is dull in colour. If you are lucky enough, you will see the pair embrace and eggs are dropped scatterly.

As Kevin Korotev and Zack Wilson (who had succefully spawned this new species of Badis also.) had suggested me earlier, remove the pair as soon as they spawned or the eggs will be eaten by the female. (not too sure about the male as he always seem to guard the territory where the eggs are scattered!)

I would say that Badis sp. "scarlet" is an egg-scatter rather than a cave-spawner like their close relatives e.g. Badis siamensis, Badis burmanicus, Badis badis, etc.

Good luck
