yes: let's dry your battery down !
coby: regular vinegar will do the job.
i've used some regular "multipurpose sand" in my tanks and had no problems.
now, that might depend upon the brand maybe. so i can't give you any advise
on that.

Coby if you put some battery acid from a 12 volt battery on it and it
doesn't fizz it won't alter your Ph as for any additives I don't know-as for
me I use the d=sandbox sand and it's great
