I've had males take over guarding fry before, but I can't remember ever having such a polygamous species as A. cacatuoides undertake the role. More often than not the male gets tired of the job and either ignores them (& the fry get eaten by other tank mates) or they eat the fry themselves. Keep an eye on the male & his fry. If they start disappearing you might want to separate the male from the fry.
