How about water lettuce or Amazon
frogbit? They are true floating plants with really long roots.
Salvinia grows really well in soft acidic water, but their roots are not as
long. Duck weeds are so small and get into everything. All of these
floating plants are good nutrient (nitrate, phosphate or what have
you) scrubbers as well.
