Re: eggs and fungal infection

Interesting Happening!!!......egg...fungus!!!!!..........the other day I was
cleaning tanks and fooling around and in one of my tanks I have 3 types of
fish......1) a type of mop spawning killifish 2) a tetra from Peru that the
hobby hasn't seen yet and 3) a type of wild cacatuoides..........with the
likkifish in the tank there were 3 spawning mops in the tank........a piece of
styrofoam with yarn wound around it so the killifish can lay their eggs in the
mop..........I had taken 6-7 eggs out of the mop several days before and was
going to do that again.........I took out the mop.....squeesed it in my had
until it was quite dry and put them in a butted diah and took them to my table
and was going to sit sown and pick eggs (we killifish guys are a bit nuts like
that.....we do that in our sleep)........one thing or another happened and I
didn't get to the picking for maybe 15-20 minutes..........not a problem with
killifish eggs..........I opened up the strands of the first mop and found
several killifish eggs and went to the second mop.......a couple of eggs were
there but I noticed way up top close to the knot and the TOP of the surface of
the water was a bunch of red things......smallish......egg kinda things but not
really eggs I didn't think......I kinda flicked a bunch off of the mop with my
fingers and then decided.......maybe the tetras had spawned.......these are
wild fully grown tetras and no one has them maybe they have reddish
eggs........how nifty..........so I picked off the remaining 20-30 eggs I could
find and put them in water like killifish eggs and wondered if this was really
stupid............they were out of the water for 20 minutes.....I had my
fingers all over them but what the heck............I looked 2 days later and
there were 12 hatched fry..........they were NOT tetra size, they were apisto
size..............folks........I'll raise them to full size but they were the
WILD CACATUOIDES that had spawned at the TOP of the water surface in a
killifish spawning mop.........there were clay pots and clay "apisto"
spawning "things" all over the tank..........they chose to spawn there.....!
Just when you think you have seen it all along comes something
else!!!!....I've seen apisto's la egs all over the place but it has always been
a solid spot.......not in the soft "tentacles' of a killifish spawning
mop!!!......sorry about the lenght of the post........I thought it was a fun
thing!

Mike
