I spawn them in Montreal tap water.

Temp 80 F

Ph 6.0  Hardness 60 ppm

Food, flakes , live bbs and some frozen

I did lower the Ph with Seacham

I also use Tetra black water extract. I don`t think this made any different

There in a 10 gallon tanks ,sand,1 coconut shell,plants,sponge filter,4 
pencil fishes
