There are some very good descriptions and discussions of Peruvian river systems and their water values in Kullander's "Cichlid fishes of the Amazon River drainage of Peru. Kullander also references other papers on the limnology of the area. It is well worth look up. Check with the Swedish Museum of Natural History web site. They published this book. I'm not sure if it is still in print, however.
