Warmer temps produce more male (except A. caetei). I'll say it again. Everyone, buy Römer's book! You'll waste more money on dead dwarfs, messed up breeding attempts, etc. without the book than it costs to buy the book. And no, I don't make a commission of his book sales. ;-) It's just that good.

So, which by giving them warmer temperatures, will you get more females or males? I been breeding cacatouides and getting about 90% males. Don't know the exact temp, but I'm in Hawaii, so must be mid 80s.

Nuno,
Römer's study recommends that the fry be raised at 26ºC (79ºF) for a 50/50 ratio. This is discussed in his book.
From what I understand, Römer's 2nd volume will be about all of the new species not listed in his 1st volume. Therefore if you want all of the apistos, you will need both volumes. If true, this is much better than the revised editions of Linke & Stack's book. Their new editions only have 4 or 5 new species. The rest of the book is the same as the old book. I keep hearing that Römer's Volume 2 will be out sometime later this year. Based on how long it took the original to arrive, I will not be holding my breath. Does anyone out there know any more details?

Thanks. I guess 25 C can be considered "normal" and read somewhere it will also be quite on spot to obtain a 50/50 sex ratio.
Isn't the Romer's Atlas coming out as a 2nd edition with loads of updated information. I read that in a post a couple of months ago. I would rather wait and buy the second ed, then.
By the way Mike & Diane, the male that spawned was the very same male you help me with that was a serious flagelades case a few months ago. The drug worked perfectly. Thanks a lot!!!

3 days to hatch & an additional 4 days to become freeswimming at normal aquarium temperatures. Seems like someone needs a good book on dwarf cichlids. I highly recommend Römer's "Cichlid Atlas" published by Mergus.

Hi all,
once again I have a female aga caring for some eggs - hope this time it works better than before. Is there a good reference for expected hatching times for apistos in general? Couldnt find anything in the krib... :-(
I would be interested in knowing how many days it will take for the fry to be born and, afterwards, how long will it take for them to start free swimming (to get the bbs fresh and ready on time).
The temp is 25 C.
Thanks in advance
Nuno
