regani-group sp. from Rio Negro - was Identification

Pete,

It's good to know that I am not the only one with this problem.

As for regani-group species from the Rio Negro, there are at least 3, maybe more forms from there. A. regani comes from lower Negro around Manaus, but is rarely imported due to its lack of color. A. sp. Gelbwangen/Yellow-cheeks is from the same general location, too, as is a form of the Yellow-cheeks with red markings on the gill cover (a red-cheeked Yellow-cheeks??). Farther up the Negro 2 other regani forms are known. The one better known, but still rare in the hobby, is A. sp. São Gabriel from around the town of São Gabriel do Cachoeira in the upper Negro. Mayland originally called it A. sp. Alto Negro. Another species comes from around Barcelos. It was collected by a hobbyist from Japan. It is unusual for its split vertical bars, like those on steindachneri-group species & A. staecki.

Yes, I have not been able to see them either. While I think about it, has anyone got any suggestions for what appears to
be a regani-group Apisto from the Rio Negro?
A branch of Maidenhead Aquatics near Warrington had in a batch of mixed wild
Apistos, and as they've grown there are pertensis-group fish, some A.
gephyra, and a few that are very difficult to place. They look most like A.
geisleri (but from the wrong area unless it was just the remainder from two
or three batches that got sent), with very pale bodies, and few markings
other than two or three indistinct spots along the mid-line.
Pete
