A couple months ago we got into a hot and heated debate over the value and
viability of a Species Maintenance Program. Someone suggested I check the
website of the Aquatic Conservation Network. I finally got a response from my
communication with them, and thought a few of you may be interested in what
they had to say. I personally am not impressed and suspect the ASG SPM is
probably doing better than these guys.

Sounds to me like this group is just about dead. A pity I think, as they may
have been capable of something good.

Bob,

Not only 3 hours pay, but 10 minutes time in typing a message that you
have by now figured will never get a reply.

Sorry about the delay in responding.

The ACN aspires(d) to more than what you have read on the web pages,
including species maintenance activities. Recent administrative woes
prompted me to cut the information back to just the basic "warm & fuzzy".
Like any volunteer organization, it does only what the members make
happen. Essentially, we've had members waiting for it to happen by itself
combined with a bit of disorganization at the top I dare say. We're
working to get back to our former level of organization, but rather a less
appealing challenge for someone wanting to get into the swim of the
conservation task. Unfortunately, too much for too few volunteers as of
late, for which no "warm and fuzzy" apologies you will get from me. I've
been trying very hard for many years to motivate aquarists out of their
fishrooms.

So I don't promise anything at all to you and unless you want to become
part of the effort to "do" - save your wages for fish tanks and your own
species maintenance programs.

Sincerely,

Rob Huntley / ACN
