This list is great and sort of > like a club but not the same. No raffles for one! Doug, I don't know about where you live, but here in California they are having their share of clubs dying out. Mainly due to politics. It is a shame. The only way to know if a club elsewhere is worth the drive is to go attend it for one or two months. If you are getting something out of it, then yes, by all means go to it. The one here in Sacramento is slowly declining so we attend the Pacific Coast Cichlid Association in San Jose which is about 2 1/2 hours of driving from here, one way! But, the club is definitely well worth the drive. The speakers, the group, the auctions, raffle, etc. I think you will have to attend the one in Buffalo for yourself and see how it makes you feel. Only you can judge if the other club is worth your drive or not. These things do happen from time to time. It is sad to see, though. > 3) What does it take to start a club? Is there a FAQ anywhere? I've heard > companies like Tetra offer some sort of support with speakers and goods. > These things would be good to know. If I remember correctly, you can contact FAAS (Federation of American Aquarium Societys) on the internet and they can help you get all the information you need to start a club. It isn't easy, but is well worth the effort if a group of people can work TOGETHER to bring it about. If you choose this route, I wish you all the luck in the world! Here is their URL - http://www.tomgriffin.com/FAAS/ I hope this helps.
