There is an ancient Hawaiian myth that the black sand is cursed and if you remove the sand from it's rightful place, you will have bad luck. So Kathy is everything OK? Yes we brought back Hawaiin sand. You actually can, the AG guys let you. Unfortunately, we didn't get the black sand but rather some nice coral reef stuff, with lots of microscopic shell (For our shelldweller tanks), lugging it back in our suitcases was fun. I almost felt guilty about taking the sand (ie leave things in the environment etc) but whan we came back two days later, a storm had washed all of it but a tiny 3 ft spot back to the ocean. Next time I will keep an eye on for some black, but that may be awhile.
