Re: how to breed pelvachromis pulcher

mine are now breeding all the time. But they just lost the majority of a
spawn, yesterday, to one of the ohter tankmates. What do you all think got
them?? I have one mollie, 3 biotodoma cupido, 4 m. altispinosas, 3 clown
loaches, one large pleco, 4 austr. rainbows, 1 lemon tetra (my biggest
suspect at the moment) and 3 diamond tetras (anothr good suspect), and 4
other grown kribs, and 5 3 mo. old kribs from their last spawn. My ph is
about 6.8 1 degree GH, i have peat in the fluval. lots of floating plants,
about 78 F. I'm so disappointed they lost most of their spawn, they were
about 2 weeks old and very active, and their were about 100 of them. I'd
move them to their own tank but i don't think i have a rat's chance of
catching them-too many nooks, rocks, and the 75 gallon is deep, i can't
reach the bottom.
THis couple have bred repeatedly in the past, when the water was near 9 ph
and about 9 degrees GH, but the eggs never hatched. They spawn about every
3 mos, or so. The hard part is getting the male interested, the last time
she shimmied in front of him for 3 weeks before he would pay attention to
her, he was busy taking care of the other babies.
At the last spawn, before this, teh ph was about 7.5 and it was successful
so you probably are fine.
