I am using decapsulated BS eggs almost exclusively. I currently have three
coonsecutive hatches of A cacatuoides that were hatched in very algae-ridden
tanks. I left them with "Mom for varying amounts of time, and started
feeding the de-cap on day 4. They survived just fine on the nasties in the
algae until then. They have never seen live BBS, and are doing great.
Growth is as good as or slightly better than when I used BBS. For the first
week of de-cap, I hold a pinch under the water and stir it in. After that, I
start sprinkling it on the surface and let the filter current slowly drive it
in over time. The fish will sometimes leave the bottom and hover at mid-tank
for more than an hour, snatching at the de-cap as it sinks. This allows for
a longer feeding period, which I figure is closer to the way they eat in the
wild.
