I figure that the two most readily-available sources for this information are the Apisto List and Discus-L. Unfortunately, Discus-L is subject to up to two-week turnarounds on information, provided you get anything useful to begin with... I've had a case of nematodes display themselves in a Paradisefish that I picked up as a breeder - I know, far from an Apisto, but the populations of Anabantids I maintain (3 types) help pay a significant portion of the cost of the fish I *really* want through local sales. Believe it or not, this is the first case I've ever experienced, even though I've kept more than a few wild-caught fish. And as I don't wish for it to spread, either to my breeding population or especially my sellables, I thought to pick up a few pointers. The most commonly-recommended treatment I've picked up on is Levamisole Hydrochloride, usually through dissolving the med in a little water and soaking dried food for internal application. (This might be a chance to try brine enrichment through an emulsion, also.) I live in an area where obtaining a fairly pure source wouldn't be problematic, as it's used for farm animals also. Is this method still viable, or does experience lead to a better treatment method? And what seems to be the best time span for re-treating the developing cysts/larvae? Also, I'd be interested in finding out about the transmission mechanics, as that type of info appears to be rare in the on-line aquaria sources. Somehow, I don't think fish pick them up quite the same way as sheep. Thanks much... -Y- David A.
