I just received a copy of Römer's dwarf cichlid atlas. I must say it has almost everything d.c. hobbyist are looking for in one book. The identification key is incredible, as is the bibliography. There are 5 or more photos of almost every fish discussed - maybe 150-200 species! The information on each species is MUCH more detailed and extensive than that found in the similar looking Baensch Atlases. It has some flaws and errors, but what book doesn't? New data always pops up between the final draft and a book's publication. This book will definitely be the only reference book you'll need. I'll be doing a more thorough review in the Apisto-gram soon. Now for the down side. It reportedly won't be out in English until late 1999. My guess is that Spring 2000 is more likely. Römer was still getting the kinks out of the English version this month with the Soares' help. If you can't wait for the English edition, I guess you can always get the German version and start to learn a useful new language. On the up side, Römer is working on a volume 2 right now.
