Meeting next Tuesday

We're still not organized for next year, so come share in our
unpreparedness next Tuesday, for an informal introduction and
roundtable discussion. As many of our meetings later in the season tend
to be "big speaker" types, this is a great one to get questions answered
or debated by our general membership.

WHAT: The first 2000-2001 GSAS meeting
WHERE: The Seattle Aquarium, Pier 59, Upstairs in the auditorium
WHEN: Tuesday September 12th, 7:30-9:30 PM
BRING: Yourself, any fish, goods or stories to trade.

In other happenings, the Greater Portland Aquarium Society is holding
their big annual show the weekend of September 23rd-24th. If you've never
been to a big show, it's worth the drive. They usually have around a
hundred tanks of show fish, speakers on Saturday, and an auction Sunday.
Featured speakers will include Charlie Grimes, Ron Shimek, Lee Finley and
Gene Lucas. Go to http://www.gpas.org for more information, or pick up an
entry form at our meeting. One good bit of news is that the event will be
held at their NEW location which is almost a half hour north of the old
place, and since the while thing starts at 10:30 in the morning, that's
sure a help to us Seattlites!

Also, an event which I have been personally very involved in is the
AGA Aquascaping Showcase. It's basically an "Aquarium Beautiful Home
Show" on a national level. You enter your tank (through 3-5 photos) in
one of three categories (Aquatic Garden, Natural/Biotope, or Artificial).
It's not a photo contest. (In fact, I will volunteer to come over to
anyone's house in the Seattle area to take pictures of their tanks!) The
best part: some really nice prizes, including a 72-gallon Bow-Front tank.
Feel free to e-mail me, or go check the website
http://showcase.aquatic-gardeners.org for more information. Deadline is
September 30th, so hurry.
