Next Tuesday's Meeting

Announcing The January 2001 GSAS Meeting
January 9th, 2001, 7:30 PM at the Seattle Aquarium
Pier 59, Upstairs in the auditorium.
Topic: Aquascaping and Aquatic Plants Multimedia Kludge
       presented by Erik Olson

OK, this is going to be a total hack presentation, but it'll be fun,
promise! :)

I've participated heavily in two aquatic plant projects in the
last year. The first is the AGA International Aquascaping Showcase and
Contest, for which I created the website, collected and scanned the photos
from 75 entries all over the world. I'll be showing some of the more
interesting entries, sharing anecdotes from the participants, organizers &
judges, and comparing the various styles (eg Asian, Dutch, and American).

I also attended and videotaped the AGA's First Aquatic Gardeners
Convention last November in Chattanooga. I'll be showing a short "promo"
video of the trip, plus some interesting clips from the five hours of
talks (with liberal use of the fast-forward/goto button!). For anyone
who's never had the pleasure of attending a national aquarium conference,
this will be a gentle introduction to the diversity of talk topics you
might hear.

Sounds like a lot, but I'm planning this to only take up 1/2 the meeting,
so we'll have time for general plantkeeping discussion or more detail one
of the presentations.

Hope to see you there!

  - Erik
