About our June Speaker
Thanks for coming to our May meeting yesterday, and for those who missed
it I'm sure Joe will have some interesting wrap-up in the newsletter. We
hope you will enjoy our special June speaker, Dorothy Reimer, who will be
talking about aquatic plants. Here are some words about Dorothy from
AFM columnist Karen Randall (who herself was a GSAS speaker a few
years back).

Dear GSAS members,
Kathy Olson contacted me asking for a little background introductory
information on my dear friend, Dorothy Reimer. Dorothy is a true Canadian
"pioneer". In the early years of her marriage, she and her husband lived in
a little house with no running water or electricity in north west Canada.
There, they started their family, while Dorothy also worked as the teacher
of the town's one-room school house.
Dorothy, her husband and their growing brood later moved to London, Ontario,
where she still lives today. If you visit Dorothy, you will know
immediately that you have arrived at the home of a serious aquarist; there
are relief work tropical fish made by her talented artist son worked into
the cement foundation of her front porch!
Dorothy actually started out in the hobby by helping her husband with his
fish, but as time went on, she became more and more involved herself. When
her husband passed away, she "inherited" his large fishroom, which she
maintains to this day.
Dorothy has been well known for many years as "The Plant Lady". Her green
thumb is apparent when you walk into the basement fishroom, and see that
every tank is not only full of lovely, home-bred fish, but is also
overflowing with beautiful, well grown plants. Dorothy has been generously
sharing her knowledge of aquatic gardening with others for many years now.
Besides her frequent speaking engagements, she has worked tirelessly as one
of the founding members of the Aquatic Gardeners Association. She was a the
membership chairperson for many years, and still serves on the Steering
Committee.
Of all the wonderful people in the aquarium hobby, Dorothy is one of my
favorites. I'm sure that you will enjoy her talk, and learn a great deal in
the process! Treat her nicely; she is truly one of the great people in this
hobby.
