GSAS October Meeting Reminder
The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society will be holding its regular, October
Meeting this coming Tuesday, October 8, 2002 at 7:30pm on the second floor
of the Seattle Aquarium, pier 59. Parking is available for free on the
street or in the metered spots (after 6:00pm) in the lot across the street.
At our September meeting, many of you expressed an interest in Aquascaping.
But whether you have a "blue-green" thumb or not, you are in for a real
treat as we watch a video presentation featuring Takashi Amano. Erik Olson
was kind enough to share this tape with us; here's what Erik had to say...
Last November I (Erik) had the pleasure of attending the Aquatic Gardeners
Association convention in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The guest speaker was
Takashi Amano. Mr. Amano is famous for his Nature Aquarium World books (some
of which can be checked out of our own GSAS library), his amazing
photography skills, and for bringing the concept of aquascaping to an
entirely new level. Mr. Amano gave two presentations, including the live
aquascaping demo which we will be showing at the meeting. He started with a
completely empty aquarium, and followed the entire procedure of substrate,
driftwood and rock selection & placement, plant selection, and planting
techniques, ending with the fully-planted aquascape ready for display.
I found some of the ideas presented intriguing, especially Amano's
techniques for foreground planting, and ended up completely ripping apart my
own aquarium last winter to try them out myself. I hope that you will find
things of similar interest from the videotape I have put together of this
presentation. The running time is about an hour.
So, please make plans to attend, get involved, and watch our club grow! The
doors open for the general public at 7:00pm so come a little early and get
acquainted with others that share your love for all things aquatic! Check
out our website for directions and other interesting information at
www.gsas.org .
See you there!
