GSAS March 2004 Meeting Reminder - Tuesday, March 9, 2004

The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society will be holding its regular, March
Meeting this coming Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at 7:30pm on the second floor of
the Seattle Aquarium, pier 59. Parking is available for free on the street
or in the metered spots (after 6:00pm) in the lot across the street.

At this month's meeting we will enjoy a presentation on Wild Bettas
presented by Yohan (pronounced "Joe-han") Fernando, who grew up in Sri Lanka
and moved to the United States in 1988. Yohan currently hails from the
Chicago area. He is a former President of the International Betta Congress
(IBC,) elected as a Fellow of the Congress in 2002, and is currently on the
Advisory Board of their Species Maintenance Program (SMP.) Although active
in the Aquarium hobby since his childhood, he has been focusing his efforts
on Betta species since about 1995. Over the last 10 years, Yohan has raised
and bred more than 20 species of Bettas.

Here's a sneak-peak at Yohan's presentation...

Topic: Wild Bettas
- Introduction - There are more to Bettas than just show splendens.
- Species Overview - mouthbrooding bettas and bubblenesting bettas
- Tank setups
- Breeding tips and raising fry
- Literature overview for further reading and research
- Question/Answer session

This is going to be a unique presentation that you won't want to miss!

Please note although we're currently looking for a new home for GSAS, we are
still meeting at the Seattle Aquarium. This month's meeting will be in a
different room on the opposite side of the lobby area. Watch for signs
directing you to the Bay View Room.

So, please make plans to attend, get involved, and watch our club grow! The
doors open for the general public at 7:00pm so come a little early and get
acquainted with others that share your love for all things aquatic! Check
out our website for directions and other interesting information at
www.gsas.org .

We'll see you Tuesday night!
