Minutes, Databases, and Speakers, oh my!

Hi there, and hope you're enjoying your vacation.

I'm progressing on figuring out the future of the member database, having
been home sick for the last day... opportunities to read up on this sort
of thing.  I've got it converted into the form I need, now working on Part
2, which is making it accessible through a web interface.  My thinking is
that we'll bust up the responsibilities between Scott, who'll be entering
new members as part of the treasury, and myself, who'll be printing out
labels for newsletters, making address corrections as they come in, etc.
One nice thing about the final version is that theoretically we can set up
the security for anyone on the board to make address corrections and such
(alleviating the need for shuffling notes around, which is what happens
now).

Scott or Heather, one of you has the new members from the last 2
meetings... I need them in order to send the newsletter out to the new
members.  Will try to find the piece of paper they were written on last
month.  

Third, Shannon called Kathy back confirming she can do January's meeting.
Kathy doesn't know this yet; she's on call. :)

Meeting Notes - 11/23/98

Attendance: Heather, Sam, Erik, Kathy, Scott, Victoria, Vittorio, Don, Laurie.

Vittorio is back and on the board again.

Treasury: Scott Cartwright officially took over duties from Steve Avenell.
Statements are now being mailed to Scott.  They will transfer check-writing 
power
once these minutes are published.  Current balance is $4570.99.

Holiday Meeting: Victoria will get the ham, drinks, plates, cups, plasticware.
Gift exchange $5 or less.

Speakers: Shannon from Saltwater City probable for January... Kathy
just needs to confirm.  Kathy's also working on fitting in Wayne
Leibel (big cichlids), Wayne Yamashita (rainbowfish), Diane Elliott
(diseases) in the future.  Many members are interested in having more
informal time at meetings, so we discussed having either a few smaller
meetings, or more time within each regular meeting.  Vittorio reminded
everyone we need to have a livebearer person.  March or May: two small
topics? koi and roundtable on ponds?

Membership: Erik now acting until...

Fish of Month: Black phantom tetras for Christmas.  Sam is fish of month person.

Shows and Contests:  Sam will check with Bob (flying fish) about upcoming shows
for which we can decorate tanks.  Laurie is the de facto investigateur for the
flower & garden show.  Also possible home show or street of dreams 
participation?

Fish Breeding: Perhaps Heterandria?  Heather (and Dave? and Vittorio?)
may be able to supply these.  Or maybe endlers?  Vote at holiday party.

Plant auction: perhaps start early?  Requests: a couple pond lilies, lotus, 
pond plants?

Board Meetings: December meeting is Tuesday January 4, at Elliott Bay 
Bookstore.  
January meeting at regular time 26th, Sam's house! 

Newsletter: need articles.

Newsletter contest: Eclipse system 6.  topic: The most interesting
problem I had & how I fixed it (troubleshooting).  ("Against all odds?"  i.e. 
keeping
two incompatible fish, surviving a power outage, etc).  Personal experience.  
by June.
Perhaps bring in system 6 prize as display for a few meetings. 

Misc:

Erik needs to   put more info on meeting date/time along with map and/or 
membership forms.
                contact Sam with unusual plants.

Don would be happy to take over the library if/when Anne is tired.
