RE: OK, what's up?

OK, here's what's up with me.

I guess I'm still president so all this is my fault. I'm sorry I've not really
gotten on the ball for this year, but there have been a few major personal
things I've been going through and I've let that be my excuse.

Send out a postcard or tell me how to do it. The first meeting will be a
round-table discussion -- basically a social meeting to get to know one
another to kick off the year. Some basic text is below if you don't want to
write it.

At this meeting we can get feed-back from members about what they'd like to see
during the year, as far as speakers, topics, &cetera go.

I somehow missed the e-mail you sent talking about having a board meeting... I
was under the impression we were just going to be doing a postcard reminder for
this meeting and skipping the board meeting.

That was my Oops.

The fact is that I don't think we've got much enthusiasm from anyone on the
board right now. You should not try to compensate for that, Erik, you should
just take it as a cue that we are being less than enthused right now and follow
suit. As long as you are so willing to do everything we will probably sit on
our butts and let you. Just don't do it. If it doesn't get done it isn't the
end of the world and maybe someone else will be more willing to jump in and
lend a hand.

OK, this is last bomb I have to drop, and please don't panic because I know
SOMEONE other than Erik will jump in and offer to do this. I will be in Toronto
for the next general meeting. It is unavoidable.

Yeah, I know, I suck.

Someone should basically be at the aquarium to say "hi, yeah, you're in the
right place" for the meeting and maybe write down anything they overhear about
what people would like to see at the following meetings.

Hopefully after this first general meeting, and the next board meeting (the
*fourth* tuesday of September? the 28th?) we'll be back on track.

Lets plan that board meeting for my house... 1622 10th Ave W. (206) 284-1206

ciao,

possible text for post-card meeting reminder:

Welcome back to the new year of the Greater Seattle Aquarium Society!

After the break, our first meeting will be a social gathering to catch-up with
each other about what we've done this last summer, and what we are hoping to
see in the comming new year. Please try to think about what you would like to
see happening during the up and comming meetings this year... is there a
particular speaker you'd like to hear? a topic you'd like to learn more about?
or maybe you'd enjoy a field trip to a local wholesaler or an opportunity to go
collecting native species?

Please come and join us at the Seattle Aquarium on Tuesday, September 14th at
7:30 for our first meeting of the year!

Subject: OK, what's up?

Hi,

I am not doing a newsletter this month, because I received no material to
print. But even so, I *still* need something as a meeting topic for the
postcard I'm sending out. Since there was no board meeting, I don't know
the topic. I'm not the president anymore, and I hate being the one who
always has to be reminding everyone of things. I already mentioned there
should have been a board meeting last week TWICE, once at the picnic, and
once in e-mail a week later. Did anyone other than me find it strange
that there was no board meeting announced? Has anyone thought it strange
that nobody's talked about the September meeting yet? It's OK to post
here and ask what's up.

Many of you know that because of my personality, it's very hard for me to
sit by and "let things fall apart" without getting frustrated. And
unfortunately, I'm starting to realize that if this keeps happening, I may
need to resign from the board and perhaps the club entirely in order to
keep my sanity. This is really not what I want to do.

Thanks for listening.

   - Erik
