Thanks!

Hey all,

Things went very smoothly. I really appreciate everyone doing their jobs
and helping out in other areas when they were done. I was watching the
e-mail bounce around over the last week as was especially pleased to see you
all self organizing with out any prompting from me. The only thing that I
was hoping to do that didn't happen was to break up some of the more intense
positions and make sure everyone got a break. Unfortunately, I don't think
that there is enough of us to do that.

I'm tired and struggling against going on a long rant about the insanity of
trying to reconcile splits at 11:00 at night when there is a ton of stuff to
put away, and the next board meeting is going to be at the house of the
party in question. So, please feel free to make up your own rants on my
behalf. All I can say is that Erik, Bob and Victoria have a lot more
patience than I do. I was about ready to give her $20 just so she would
shut up.... Ops I think that I am starting to rant.

Suggestions:

* Put a sellers form, instructions and limits in the news letter prior to
the auction with appropriate disclaimers, including something to the effect
that while we try to accurately track the bids on items, we are not liable
for errors or mistakes and all decisions made by GSAS regarding splits are
final. While we will not take a minimum bid, the seller has the right to
pull the item etc.
* I definitely agree that we need to emphasize that the splits is a service
to help get rid of your junk, not to supplement your income. Perhaps a swap
meet would be a better forum for this. I guess we all have an upwardly
mobile bias here and $10 means more to some of our members than it does to
us. If this is the case, I would definitely lean toward a swap meet so we
can in no way be held responsible.
* Come up with a way to settle discrepancies off line with out bogging down
the process. Perhaps we need an arbitrator with the authority to make
adjustments at their discretion.
* Don't think that we should try and start any earlier. We need to leave
some time to deal with unanticipated problems. I think that we need to get
the auctioneers to pick up the pace (I hope that Anne doesn't mind.) Which
is probably best done by having four of us up there the whole time.
* Resolve all disputes with a baseball bat.
* Bring more change.
* While Don Bertaloti did a fine job of organizing the back room, he showed
up at 7:00 with no supplies to do his organizing which reinforces my
reluctance to rely on people who are not on the BOD.

Other than that, I think we did good!
