I don't really care one way or the other, but we are paying the bulk of his
airfare, thus it is only costing him $100 to see his friends.  Seems like
that is a benefit too.

I guess I would vote to pay the $650.  It seems like a nice "gesture of
hospitality" and not excessively expensive ($100 for hospitality for a
speaker from the East coast... that is a LONG flight).
