A de-jargoned version of this will be in the next newsletter in December. --------------------------------- GSAS Board Meeting Notes 10/24/00 Bob Holmes, Clay Hess, Joe Hughes, Scott Cartwright, Victoria Cartwright, Kathy Olson, Erik Olson Treasurer: Nothing new to report. Latest statement 10/16 $5019.36. We made $99 in our little auction last month to offset Eric Hanneman's $343 plane ticket plus expenses. Monthly rent is $60 for the Aquarium. Board approved pre-paying through June or so. Board approved getting a stamp with the account number. Membership Coordinator: Four renewals. Erik dropped a bunch of people off the list. PR: We were contacted by a student with an assignment to do PR for a class. Clay will contact the student. Library: Bob Holmes has taken over. Needs key. Actually lots of people need keys. We think there's more space in the library. Philanthropy: Clay reminisced on the philanthropy project. Started by Clay. His ex was a nurse at Providence, used to sit in the waiting room where cancer patients deal with a dark room with a couple magazines. Would hospital let us set up tank if we maintain it? Hospital built the stand to match the decor -- fantastic stand -- oak/formica combination (leak-proof). They set it up, put the canopy -- 55g tank -- maintained it for about two years, and the hopital decided to pay a local maintenance company to maintain it. They did this with two tanks (Children's ward as well?) [Field trip idea?] Got a lot of really nice notes from people. Clay likes the idea of schools. Doesn't have to be a big tank. Can be a 20-30. Bob knows some teachers; will run the idea by them. Scott is still planning on checking on our aquarium donation (from last spring). Let's find out how much it'll cost to get our name on something. BAP/HAP: Bob is interested in taking over the BAP. Fish of the Month: For December, Bob's doing Tic To barbs. He had them in a tank and was going to spawn them by separating the males and females, but they beat him to it. They're ready for a good spawnin' again. If you keep them in a tank all by themselves and nothing bothers them. Look like a tiger -- 2 to 3 bands on them. Those females are so fulla eggs, they can hardly swim. For November, Clay will bring Lake Victoria Haps. Shows: Scott asks if we want to do bowl shows again. We talked about home shows. Clay mentioned the home shows were in October or November, and do the big presentation at the Big December Banquet downstairs in the aquarium proper. Erik offered to take this on in a few months... after passing on newsletter. Contests: Giant Val growing? Fish spawning contest? Winter Party: Victoria got it covered. Will get smaller ham this year. Scott will ask about getting the aquarium for the party. Plant Auction: Delaware Aquatic Imports is back. Last time it was $372. Let's do $350. Erik will post requests to the list. Hospitality: Victoria. Going fine. Board Meetings: Next month is Joe's. The Tuesday after Thanksgiving. General Meeting: Gear-head workshop. Need slide projector for Joe. Rain-gutter light - Erik. *Everyone bring some filters for discussion.* Kathy has not got Dick Au's phone number. Newsletter: Stuff that's old hat to us might be interesting to newbies.
