What do you use in your tanks to buffer PH?  just the coral substrates?? I
would love to get some different ideas, I think I may have had a bad bunch
of crushed coral to have it break down.  I got it in Michigan at LFS.

If it hasn't caused any problems then no problem. I just don't trust
bicarbonates in general.
CaCO3 should be ok, if you can get it to dissolve.
