Hi Erik, Thanks for doing this research. I'll print out this email and the old newsletter masthead from your example and have them available for reference at our next meeting. President, VP and Secretary (what Clay is now renaming to "Historian") have always been board positions. They deal specifically with running the board. The bylaws (when we had them) stated that the club elects the board, and the board elects the president, VP and secretary. In the masthead, the board members who are president, vp and secretary had these titles listed with them. Interestingly, I also remember Steve Avenell mentioning once that Treasurer is not a board position, but "a person" appointed by the board. Though the last four treasurers have all been board members, I suspect this was originally a rule of convenience, because the longtime treasurer of the club for 20 years wasn't interested in being on the board. Looking back on the last 10 years of newsletters & magazines, we have been listing Treasurer as part of the board. The other "jobs" are actually called Committee Chairs, and have been listed separate from the board for the last 8 years. Newsletter editor, exchange editor, and ad manager (when there has been one) are listed under a separate header "Newsletter Staff". I dug out one of the masthead pages from one of the old newsletters that might help explain things better than all this rambling of mine: http://test.thekrib.com/cover2.jpg - Erik On Sat, 31 Aug 2002, Rick Rose wrote: > Typing up the meeting minutes got me to thinking about this subject. > > I would like to suggest that we make it an item of new business at the next > board meeting to document which positions are of necessity BOARD POSITIONS, > and which other positions may, or may not be fulfilled by a board member. > For example, President and Treasurer are just two examples of positions that > must be filled by board members.
