Re: Newsletter - New Members

I had noticed that feature when I was browsing old newsletters, too.  I 
mulled over the idea for a little while, but I finally nixed it out of 
privacy concerns.  Privacy wasn't such a big deal back in the day, but my 
experience has been that the internet, and the rise of privacy crimes (such 
as stalking and identity theft) has made people really, REALLY paranoid in 
the last 5 years or so. 

Granted you could ask people to fill out a little card, with "check here if 
you'd rather not have your name announced in the newsletter," but I could 
almost guarantee that 99% of new subscribers would check that box.  Leaving 
us with a really lame feature that makes us look sadder than we are, since 
the "New Subscribers" feature would be under-reporting new subscribers by 
99%.  If that makes any sense.  I haven't had all my coffee yet.  :)
