RE: Auction

And Sam owes his $38.00 Just told Bob I'd send to his house. Goes out
tomorrow. Also, if I'm the plant guy next year- we'll have fewer huge
plants and some more exotic ones

Thanks Bob. I got the database moved off the auction computer and it
shows we paid everyone their splits (yes, I realize we made it a policy
not to do this... but I took some time last weekend and wrote
new code for the auction program to have the option of deducting the
splits when they check out. I had to code it very carefully so that
people didn't accidentally select the wrong amount. There's also a big
warning that pops up if not all their items have been sold yet so they
don't get a preliminary split).

At any rate, all sellers have been paid, and the only remaining bit for
this year is to make sure Sandou Simion pays his $39.80 (forgot his
checkbook).

We're about the same as last year for actual income from the event, maybe
a little more after Sandou's check comes in. :) We also auctioned faster
than we've ever done before, between 7:40 and 9:40 we sold 264 lots, which
means that's one lot per 27 seconds! In 2000 we did this, but it took us
way past 10 PM.

Dave remarked that it was quite pleasant with Gilead as fourth auctioneer;
more time to relax and bid on items. In fact, the high bidder was Paul
Winchester, at $105.

Some random stats to compare and mull over, and conclude that things are
"just fine", even though our number of bidders is down:

                2003 2002 2001 2000

bidders 30 34 39 38
lots 264 259 231 260
gross $ 1327 1180 1624 1479
splits $ 265 150 403 413

(Probably some are still reeling from 2001 when Sasquatch was the high
bidder at $679.)
