Hi June,
Adding some clarification, as you
requested…
Yes; I’m talking about
gsas-member. Although it’s not a “closed
list”, for the most part, those are the people that would have received
the newsletter.
I also, am not talking about taking the
time/effort to correct every little inaccuracy.
You’re right; that would be way overboard (not to mention NO FUN!). Here are my reasons for suggesting it in this
case.
1) Any error in publishing contact information for one of our Sponsors
would go right to the top of my list. If
I were a sponsor, I would immediately imagine lost sales as people call a wrong
number and then just proceed to the next number on the list. Although Michael Vuu has been a real friend to
me in the context of his store, he has never taken the time to email me before.
In my opinion, the time it would take to
send out a correction via the email list would go a long way in a sponsor’s
mind.
2) If we had been publishing the names of one or two new members every
month, and if this weren’t the last newsletter before the summer break, I
would definitely agree that a printed correction (or really, just an inclusion)
in the next newsletter would be more than sufficient. In reality, we’ve only published the
names of the new members once before. Bruce
joined four months ago in February. Out
of 21 new members, his was the only name not mentioned. By the time the next newsletter is published
in September, it will be even older news than it is now.
These are my reasons for making the
suggestion. It’s what I would do
if I was the editor, but I’m not.
Since you invited us to make suggestions, I simply floated the idea to
you.
Rick

Corrections?
----------
Rick, as you see I am forwarding this to the board for more input.
First let me make sure that I understand correctly. You are talking about email
correction to gsas-member list?
At first thought, given that there is probably always going to be some omission
or error in the newsletters, I am bit cool to the idea of being burdened with
electronic corrections on an on going basis. I do appreciate your thought that
it likely would be positively received by individuals effected.
As standard practice, I intend to print in the following newsletter all
corrections and omissions that come to my attention.
I think it is important to bear in mind that this is a club. We are all
volunteers. It takes hard work, which in most clubs is done, at any given time,
by a few members. The more members enjoy their "work",
the better the club and when they stop having fun they tend to fade away and
the club suffers.
>From my point, editor and personal, this is small thing and although I prefer
not to do electronic corrections, I am ok with what ever board would like. I
will save my battle energy for the really big stuff some day ;->

Subject: Newsletter Corrections?
Hi June,
I was
wondering what you thought about my suggestion (in response to Michael Vuu¹s
email) that we could send out an email correction to ³most² of our membership
regarding his phone number?
Another
reason that it came to mind this morning is that I¹m typing up the minutes of
the last board meeting. In comparing the list of new members in the
minutes to the list published in the newsletter, I¹ve discovered that Bruce
Fischer¹s name was not published. I¹ve had a couple brief discussions
with him at past meetings just enough to know that he¹s a detail-oriented nut
like me and I¹m sure he would have noticed the omission. I also know that
he happens to be one of the members that is subscribed to the
Members-email-list, so he would receive the correction if we do send one.
If you
are in agreement with the idea, I think it would be best coming from you, as
the editor. And, I¹m not suggesting that it sound like some ³Grand
Apology² by any means. These things happen all the time; and will
undoubtedly happen again. I have in mind something with a ³positive spin².
What
do you think?
Thanks,
Rick
