As I mentioned, you’re kind of “plowing new ground,” but we did try a few things last year that were very well received. Number one, we’re certainly NOT asking you to entirely miss out on the regular meetings yourself while you “baby sit” for the rest of us. The kids kind of “hang out” in the room next to where we meet. By kids, I mean age 4 – 12’ish. We have sometimes had coloring pages that go along with the theme of the presentation, crayons, and a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-place judging at the end of the meeting. The winning entries are published on our website, and I have used some of them to make “Thank You” cards and other promotional materials for the club. I also “plan” to make an “activities booklet” (similar to what kids get at a restaurant to keep them occupied until the food comes.) It would have word-searches, puzzles, draw-by-the-number, areas to color, etc (all aquarium-related, of course.) I’m sure you’ll have other ideas that they’ll love as well.
All but the very young ones are usually interested in seeing the slides that are shown by the speaker, so there are times when they join the main group and sit with their parents. They share the same “snacks” as the main group and are basically “used” to being able to come-and-go as they please (hopefully, monitored by their parents.) So, I envision you’re position to be a very low-key, not-full-time, someone to see that there’s something interesting for them to do when the meeting topic/activity is very adult-oriented, if you know what I mean.

Wow! Rick, thank you so much for the huge vote of confidence. I have worked with my Young Life group for a year or so in Steilacoom, however I am not sure what sort of structure the youth meetings have had in the past. I am interested in some sort of outline to base my activity planning. I have a few ideas for the "first" meeting <this Tuesday night> but being new at this, I just want to get off on the right foot.
