update
I talked to Kelly at the Aquarium today. We have the Bayview room on
March 9, and a screen will be provided. I also told her of our intent to
petition her supervisor for a rate reduction on the rent and asked her for
her supervisor's name, which she gave me. She agreed that it would be
worthwhile to at least give it a shot.
I will compose a letter to this individual, post it here for
comments, make any necessary changes and/or corrections and then Rick can
type it on GSAS letterhead paper. I'll sign it and send it off to the
aquarium, and we'll see what happens.
Kelly also got us an additional month, April, at our current rate.
I plan to email Steve Lundblad at the Cichlid Exchange, probably
Sunday, and see if he would be willing to do a presentation on Tanganyikan
cichlids for next month's meeting (short notice, so it's iffy) or if not
then maybe June or later in '04. I'll do the same, sequentially, with the
other possible speakers on the list. (Rick, could you give me the info on
those livebearer people that Frank Tomko recommended ?)
If we can't come up with a speaker, then it's Plan B - video night
("Rio Negro" / and possibly "Jewels of the rift" as a second feature if
there's time and interest.
Yohan Fernando (wild bettas) looks good for March and Tom Waltzek
(loaches) looks pretty solid for May. I'll need to contact them and firm up
the details. We (GSAS) will most likely have to provide airport pickup /
dropoff, maybe hosting, dining etc. ......something to keep in mind. I
expect I'll be able to help out here.
