GSAS Insurance Quote Request

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your time on the phone today.  I’ll try to answer all the questions that you had about our club and our insurance needs.

The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society (GSAS) has been in existence since 1971.  I personally have been with the club for 3 years (two years as a board member.)

Our mission statement...

The Greater Seattle Aquarium Society is a non-profit corporation, organized under the laws of the State of Washington.  The primary purposes of the society are to promote interest in the aquarium hobby, and to provide a forum for the exchange of information among aquarium hobbyists.

Each member “unit” pays annual dues based on the following…

Juvenile (under 18)         $6/year

Single Adult                   12/year

Family                          16/year

Senior                           6/year

Life                               (free to anyone and their family who has every served as GSAS President)

We have been renting a meeting room at the Seattle Aquarium (no affiliation) for as long as anyone can remember.  They recently more than doubled our rent so we are looking for another place to meet.  While meeting at the Seattle Aquarium we were not required to carry our own insurance policy.  I am not aware of any claims ever having been made against our club or against “the Aquarium” as a result of our use of the facility.  The place where we are seriously considering for our new meeting location is a classroom and lobby area of Weter Hall at Seattle Pacific University (SPU.)  They have informed us that we do need our own insurance policy although we do not yet have any of the specifics in writing.

We have a total of 95 active membership units (individual mailing addresses) on the roster (including several businesses and sponsors.)  Average attendance at any monthly meeting is 35 – 40 which typically includes some guests (non-members) who are always welcome to attend.

Twice each year we have a special emphasis on a Club Auction – which is our primary source of revenue for the club.  These two meetings are more popular and generally draw a much larger crowd (maybe 60-80?)

We only meet 10 months out of the year – September – June (no meetings in July or August.)

We have a lockable cart on wheels (about the size of a medium file cabinet) in which we store books, promotional materials, and dry-goods for refreshments.  This cart is stored at the meeting facility year-round.

Please let me know if there is any other information that you would require in order to provide a quote for the general liability insurance needs of our club.

Thanks,

Rick Rose
