Geez, that's not cool at all. I thought we had all
talked this over and discussed it with her months ago!
Some good news though, Indoor Reef of Tacoma is
donating a 4' T-5 light fixture. I'm going to pick it up
today.

Subject: Holly's Message Board
Well, sad to say, writing that message to Holly about NOT
putting up a message board was not on the top of my list, and now we have a
mess.
I took a look at the board. She has lifted our logo
from the website, and claims to be "The message board for the Greater
Seattle Aquarium Society." There is no disclaimer about it not being the
"official site" or not being "sponsored" by GSAS. She claims to have
the "latest news" which the board has no input or control over. This
is going to be a mess. That "board 'misconduct' insurance" that we
just dismissed is starting to look like a very realistic necessity if we
let this continue. Not that we really have mis-conducted ourselves in
any way, but now we "appear" to be endorsing a message board where people
could say absolutely anything they want and you can bet we'll be named in
any law suit that results. Every subject listed has a moderator of
"GSAS Staff!"
This might have just gotten bigger than the email
response that I was supposed to have written to Holly. In my opinion,
someone needs to call her on the phone and insist that the site be taken
down. Maybe if whoever calls her can make her understand the
implications, she won't become bitter about it.
Whatever we do, we
need to do it quickly before it catches on.
Rick

RE: What to expect at the auction this year?
I actually made a phpBB
message board on my website back in November. I never showed it to
the group or finished working on it but here it is: http://www.ourglasshouse.com/gsas/
I
enjoy message boards because they're a lot easier to follow for me.
All replies are there in the post. Pictures and galleries can be
added. Private messages are handy. They're great. There's also
a feature that can be added where you can subscribe to actual boards rather
than just posts. Then you'll be notified of all activity on the board via
Email if you prefer. That's a feature I really like over at
AquariumAdvice.com. I far prefer a message board for communication,
but I understand that many people prefer a newsgroup.

Another option is
changing the board to a phpBB style board where you can receive "private
messages" but hide your email address if you'd like. Here's just
one example:

Food
for thought. Sorry that had to happen...
