Hi Sandu,
I believe Bob already has May filled with
Tim Hovanec. He said he’d be out of town through Sunday, so I thought I’d
speak up in case you were already making plans for May. It might be that Tim
is flexible and could schedule for a different month, but which ever way it
works out, I hope they both get to come.
Rick

Calfo for the month of May/05
Lately, I've coresponding, via
email, with Anthony Calfo about his talk -and slide show- on
begginer reef aquarist. Rick, if you remember, at our last board meeting I
mentioned the month of May, but you, for some reason that I don't remember, had
it down in your notes for March. I think we need to really take a decizion on
this at our next board meeting. Until then, this is what I've got: on Calfo:

cheers, Sandu
great to hear from you my friend :)
I havent gone to Italy yet... schedules have
changed... now Nov for Milan. And with a girlfriend
too :) Shes a fellow aquarist thankfully <G>
Regarding the seattle visit... I must admit I'm a bit
confused, my friend. I'm quite road weary at present
and getting into crunch time for finishing vol 2 of
NMA
Are we talking about May for PSAS? I have them down
for that date as a confirm. Do you know MIke Obrien
and those nice chaps at Reef Frontiers?
Also have Midcolumbia down for some time in August?
I'm wondering/afreared I have forgotten to log a
time/space for GSAS?
Please help to clear my muddy mind, my friend :)
If the above is correct... perhaps a shared meeting
between either club? Save on travel expenses for
y'all. Or... scheduled two nights in a row (diff
venues) so that you can still share the travel
expense?
If not, I may not be able to fit a third trip to
Seattle in for next year :(
Am starting to work on 2006 calender year and quite
blessed to say so :)

"Are we talking about May for PSAS? I have them

No, we are talking May for GSAS -the entry level slide show. If you scroll
down this sequence of messages, you will find this message, from you:
"Can you folks fit me in January or May of next year?
FWIW... I'd much rather visit Seattle and/or Canada in
warmer months ;) January could be chilly :p If
its any incentive... I'll be sure to have at least one new
book ready by next Spring :)"
So we did, for May, at our board meeting. Now we just want you to confirm
that. I see that you already booked with our friends, at PSAS, for that
month. That can work out very well for all of us -I would think- if we can
schedule it well. Usually, PSAS meetings are kept on Saturdays evening,
(don't know which particular week) and GSAS meetings are always kept the
second Tuesday evening of the month, except the months of July and August;
summer vacation.
I have to tell you that Bob Holmes, the GSAS President, and the rest of
the
board members, were really enthused by the thought of such a topic -the reef
beginner talk- since we want to develop more this branch of our beautiful
hobby. So, if you don't mind to have two talks in the same month and the
same town, one for advanced and one for beginners, you are more than
welcomed to do so. You can stay at my home, all this time. However, we would
like to know, either way. Thank you.
Sandu

Thank you for the clarification.

yes... agreed. Easier on me for travel, and hopefull
be worthwhile for your two hometown clubs to split the
cost of airfare. A nice savings :)

Hmmm... as much as I'd love to take a holiday (really
love Seattle!)... it would be too much time away from
me. I do all of these club pitches for free... and the
books Bob and I write are not for (much profit)
contrary to what many folks might think <G>. We do it
to help the hobby, for pride in accomplishment, etc...
but there is little money to be made. Case in point...
we spent almost $100K of our money to produce the last
book "Reef Invertebrates" and have almost sold out of
the second printing... and my big paycheck for that
work (over a year of writing) was a whopping $5K. No
kidding. It really is for the love of the hobby, etc.
So.. point being... I cannot afford to be away from
home too much/long. I do need to do some things that
make money so I can feed myself :)
Can I trouble you to chat with your board and the
friends at PSAS to see if y'all can pull the dates
together? I'd love to do two presentations... can do
seperate nights, same day... anything you like.
And the beginner topic really appeals to me too.
Mike Obrien is my contact at PSAS... his e-mail is
obpd@direcpc.com if you care to chat with
him.
best regards!
Anthony
