Well, it does work, but there might be something even better. We will never

I suppose a reason *not* to change is that a logo is meant to provide a certain degree of continuity within an organization.

Not everyone is fond of the logo.

Yeah, I know there's a few people in the club who have hated the current logo. Rick has disliked it since he joined (he asked at his first board meeting if we could change it, and has been tweaking it ever since in his graphics). I guess if one thinks it's supposed to be an Orca, that would be a reason to dislike it.

I appreciate it more now, though, after learning it was not from 1977.

I don't really understand why its being created in 1996 vs. 1977 is an issue really. As I mentioned in the previous e-mail, we didn't uproot the old one in 1996 because it was "stale", we did it because it was not effective, and not really a logo at all. I would ALSO note that in 1996, the club was in the middle of a serious overhaul as a club, holding bowl shows, pulling in national speakers for the first time in 5 or more years, and this was one of MANY things we did.

However, there are other
talented people in the club who might be able to do another one.

Yeah, it sounds like this is a vehicle for Kate (now a non-member) to do a new logo.

It is just an idea. Why let things go stale? Is it not a fun idea to have a contest for a new one, and see what other people can do? Maybe something over the summer break? I think it would be a nice way to include everyone on project. It is a club, right? I hope we are able to put forth new ideas once in a while. If there is nothing better than the current logo, then, we don't need to change it, but if the new image was acceptable and better, then wouldn't that be a nice thing?

I have a question: are there any other contests GSAS is currently holding that folks are participating in? Ones that are directly relevant to the club's purpose, as opposed to "meta contests"? Like fish spawning, fish grow-out, photography, articles, shows? I was very pleased that there was a home show this year, but it was kinda sparse.

Has anyone offered to take on the newsletter? There's another outlet for creativity that's sorely missed.

I'm sorry that I come off sounding like a grumpy old guy, but it has always been my thought that you work on the CONTENTS of a package before you work on the box, frame or trimmings. Bob and the board have done some very cool and impressive things to this end, with the speaker line-up this year, and the new digs. That's good content in my book.
